There is pain…

Further confirmation, not that it’s needed, why my wife, landlord and dog hate my gambling. Though, my loan shark is always very encouraging and extremely upbeat.

There is pain. There is throbbing pain. There is Cartman from South Park head exploding pain. Then there is betting on the Colorado Rockies kind of pain. Tuesday night, Dodgers at the Rockies. Dodgers with Zack Greinke on the hill are a 2-1 favorite. Love the underdog Rockies. Top of the ninth and Colorado has pounded out 14 hits and lead 8-5.  Rafael Betancourt who is 40 years old, I said 40. That’s forty years old, is brought in to get the final three outs.

First batter up is 32 year old Alberto Callaspo, who singles to center field. Next up is another youngster, 36 year old Jimmy Rollins, who also singles to center. Third man up is 30 year old Chris Heisey and he singles to center. The bases are loaded.  Somehow grandpa Betancourt gets Justin Turner to strikeout swinging for out number one.  Then gets Joc Pederson to fly out to left with all runners holding their position.  Two outs. One more to go. That brings up 28 year old Alex Guerrero. Never. Nev-er. Adverb.  As in, not ever. As in, not at all. As in, NEVER have the Dodgers ever been trailing by exactly three runs in the ninth inning and had a player hit a grand slam. Until gramps Betancourt threw his 19th and final pitch to Guerrero, who hit it over 400 feet. Grand slam.  Dodgers up 9-8. Kenley Jansen, comes in and gets the final three outs in the bottom of the ninth.  Pain. Peyn. Noun. Mental or emotional suffering.
