Two. Double. Pair. Twins(not the movie). Duet. Monday was a day to celebrate a “couple ” of major events. It was Bugs Bunny 75th birthday.  Bugs was in two classic sports movies. In Baseball Bugs he plays all nine positions and makes one of the all time great catches on top of the “Umpire State” building to win the game. In Space Jam, Bugs proved that Michael Jordan acts as well as he golfs. Monday was also National Scotch Day. After what happened in the Yankee game I needed a two finger glass of scotch. Naturally it involved two plays with Mark Teixeira. Remember you can’t spell Teixeira without two e’s and two i’s.

New York Yankees at the Texas Rangers. The under/over opened at 9 and closed at 10. I finally caught a break because I got my bet in before it moved to 9 1/2 and then to 10.  After one inning of play there is no score. Top of the second (of course) and Mark Teixeira is leading off.  On a 1-1 pitch from Matt(2 T’s) Harrison(2 R’s) he hits a bomb to left center. Center fielder Leonys Martin races to the wall and makes a leaping catch to rob him of a home run. Minus 1 run. Texas scores two run in the bottom of the second. The Yanks come back in the top of the third with three runs of their own. Yanks score one in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Yanks up 6-2. Need one run for a push, which, for me, is a major win or two for a victory. Top of the eighth, two out and the Yanks have Teixeira on second and Beltran on first.  Chase Headley singles to center. Teixeira who runs like he’s about to drop a deuce, is flying around third, when he hears his third base coach yell, (2 times of course), “easy, easy”.  He slows down and is thrown out at the plate. Minus 2 runs. Final score 6-2. I’ll take another two fingers of scotch…
